Special Chamber Chat - NOLA-PS requires all students over age 5 to be vaccinated by February 1, 2022

Good evening Sci High Families,

I hope you are continuing to enjoy your well-deserved Winter Break! This message comes as a reminder that as we are gathering with family and friends, COVID-19 infections in Louisiana are surging. As of yesterday, more than 9500 new cases have been reported to the state!

In light of this rapidly evolving situation, I am reminding families that NOLA-Public Schools now require that all students over the age of 5 years be vaccinated by February 1, 2022. This means that Sci High students will need to have their first dose before January 1, 2022 and the second dose before February 1st, if taking the two-dose vaccine series.

Please make sure you pay attention to these important dates and make sure your student is vaccinated. This will help to make sure we can continue to do in-person learning without having to quarantine large numbers of students and staff, interrupting valuable learning, and will help to avoid the need to return to Distance Learning. Overall, it will help keep our Sci High community safe and healthy.

The Louisiana Department of Health is urging everyone to follow public health guidance to stay safe:

• Wear a mask in all indoor public spaces; mask in all indoor private spaces with people who are not in your immediate household; and mask outdoors when not able to social distance.
• Limit exposure to individuals outside your everyday household.
• Get tested for COVID-19 before and after traveling or gathering with individuals outside your everyday household.

I am definitely encouraging students to get tested before returning to school on January 4th. For more information on COVID testing and Vaccine sites, please go to ready.nola.gov.
