Grievances

Parents or guardians should contact the New Orleans Charter Science and Mathematics High School if they wish to get information or have an issue related to the following:

  • Disagreement with a teacher or staff member at the school
  • Student records, except if the school is no longer open
  • Discipline decisions, except if it could involve expulsion or special education
  • Issues with another student at the school
  • Student has been expelled or there are other serious discipline issues
  • Student isn’t receiving needed special education services
  • Student is in danger and the school has not responded
  • Any other serious legal, safety, or special education issues that the school has not addressed

If Sci High – through its Title I Programming – is not providing services in accordance with state and federal regulations, a parent may file a complaint in accordance with the Louisiana Handbook for School Administrators (page 12), which is available online at: http://www.doa.louisiana.gov/osr/lac/28v115/28v115.doc. Parents may also request a copy of this bulletin by calling the LDOE's toll free number at 1-877- 453-2721.

Asbestos Plan Management

Federal law requires all schools to inspect their buildings for asbestos-containing materials and to develop Asbestos Management Plans for those materials found. Our school has completed this Asbestos Management Plan. More


Student Privacy Policy

According to the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), parents and eligible students have the right to: 1. Inspect and review the student’s education records; 2. Seek amendment of the student’s education records that are believed to be inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy rights; 3. Consent to the disclosures of personally identifiable information, except to the extent that FERPA and the School Board authorize disclosure without consent; and File with the United States Department of Education.

Title IX Policy and Procedures

New Orleans Charter Science & Mathematics High School (NOCSMHS) does not discriminate on the basis of sex in its education programs and activities and, accordingly, requires its staff, teachers, employees, and students to abide by the requirements of Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 and its implementing regulations. Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination and is explicitly prohibited, whether such conduct occurs on or off campus, during or after school hours, during or directly related to school-sponsored activities, or at a time and/or place directly related to school functions or an employee's school-related duties. It is the intent of NOCSMHS to maintain an environment free from sexual assault and sexual harassment of any kind; therefore, this policy commands that no student shall be subjected to sexual
misconduct, sexual assault or sexual harassment by other students or NOCSMHS staff or employees. This policy shall be enforced and the accompanying procedures shall be implemented regardless of whether a complaint has been filed with or an investigation has been instituted by any law enforcement agency.
