Orientation Week

July 25, 2021 | by

Dear Sci High Parents and Families,

I am pleased to welcome both new and returning families to the Sci High community. Our faculty, staff, and students have been hard at work, preparing for the 2021 - 2022 school year. We are excited for the opportunity to collaborate with you to support the success of your student(s).

Sci High is such a special place to learn and grow. We are very proud of our beautiful new school and have high academic and developmental expectations for every student. Together with our dedicated staff, we strive to make connections with students to ensure they feel valued, accepted, and safe. We have learned that students who miss even a few days of school each month are at far greater risk of academic failure and dropout than students who attend class on a regular basis. Because attendance is so important, please send your child to school on time, except in the case of illness.

Each grade level has been scheduled at a designated orientation date and time. Each grade level orientation day will begin at 7:15 am and end at 12:30 pm. Only students are required to attend on their designated grade level day to learn important school details, receive their class schedule, take their ID picture, etc. All orientation dates and times can also be found on the Sci High website.

  • Tuesday, August 3 - FRESHMEN
  • Wednesday, August 4 - SOPHOMORES
  • Thursday, August 5 - JUNIORS
  • Friday, August 6 - SENIORS

The first full day of classes is Monday, August 9, 202.

The student-side gate entrance will not open until 7:15 a.m. Please do not have students arrive before that time.

We ask that the bus loading zone is not blocked and that students are dropped off and picked up on Bienville Street and can walk to the side gate entrance.

Homeroom (the official attendance-taking period) begins at 7:40 a.m. and students who arrive after this time will be marked Tardy for the day. The academic schedule ends each day at 3:15 pm, with buses departing at 3:25 pm. Here are a few other things you can look forward to:

  • Daily face-to-face classes
  • Student clubs and activities
  • Sports spectators are now allowed to attend games
  • Spirit Week & Homecoming, scheduled for October 25th - 30th

A NOTE REGARDING HEALTH and SAFETY:

  • COVID-19 vaccinations are not mandatory but are recommended for our Sci High community. We encourage all faculty, staff and students to be fully vaccinated by August 1st, 2021.
  • Since everyone has not been vaccinated, masks will continue to be required upon entering our Sci High campus.
  • Our student-based health clinic continues to offer COVID-19 testing and vaccinations.
  • We will continue to use our sanitation stations throughout the school and we recommend frequent hand-washing as another health measure.
  • All students will be required to wear masks on the school bus and each day as part of their uniform.

We are continuously monitoring the spread of the virus in our area and will adapt to changes in health and safety protocols as needed.

The Sci High website (www.noscihigh.org) has all the information needed for the school year: our calendar, bell schedules, school-wide policies, etc. Please review the Sci High School Compact with your son/daughter. We expect YOU to help us enforce this compact.

We encourage your child to get involved in after-school clubs and/or athletics. Students tend to do better academically and socio emotionally when they are involved in school activities.

Sincerely,

Monique G Cola

Head of School
