Friday Message - 8/14

August 14, 2020 | by

Good afternoon Sci High Families,
This message comes to you as we wrap up our "Meet & Greet" Day, and approach our first day of virtual-school on Monday, August 17th. So let's get ready to knock this school year out of the park. Students should be sure to get to bed early on Sunday night so that they can be ready to start classes on Monday morning. Make sure they have a clearly defined learning space - enough space for a computer, notebooks, and other supplies. Make sure their space is away from excess noise and distractions around the house. Most importantly, show them that you take their learning and development seriously and they will follow your lead!
Here are a few very important announcements:
  1. 1st Day of School: Classes for the 2020-21 school year begins on Monday, August 17th, 8:00 a.m. It is important that students are signed into their homeroom on time. Homeroom is the official attendance period, so students must be present during homeroom. Attendance will be taken in all classes and students who are not present in their virtual classrooms will receive a call from the Dean of Students' office.
  2. Attire: Students are not required to wear school uniforms while in virtual classrooms. However, students should be dressed in appropriate attire when visible in the Google Classroom/Google Meets/ or Zoom Classroom Meetings. Appropriate shirts and bottoms must be worn at all times. Students may NOT wear clothing that is see-through or sheer in the virtual classroom. No hair bonnets, bandanas, do-rags, or revealing clothing is allowed.
  3. Meals: Beginning Monday, August 17th curbside Meal Pick-up will occur every Monday and Wednesday from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at our school site located at 5625 Loyola Avenue. Monday's pick-up will consist of breakfast and lunch for Monday & Tuesday, and Wednesday's pick-up will consist of breakfast and lunch for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Curbside meal pick-up will be temporary and Sci High will roll-out a free home delivery service in the next few weeks. You must sign-up for this service by clicking on this link https://form.jotform.com/THSFC/no-sci-high-home-delivery. You will receive an email confirmation with your delivery date. Until your delivery date is confirmed, please pick-up your meals curbside at Sci High.
  4. Parent Orientation: Families are invited to join us for a Parent Orientation tomorrow morning at 10:00 am. We will review our reopening resource site, go over tips for Google Classroom, the platform your students will be using for their classes, and discuss the structure for Family Council. meet.google.com/bgz-ohyp-zmz
That's all for now! Yeah...we know that this is not how we'd prefer to start the school year, but we're going to make it a success nonetheless! We've got this!
Sincerely,
Dr. Cola
