OUR MISSION: New Orleans Charter Science and Mathematics High School (“Sci High”) is an open-admission public charter school that prepares all students for college admissions and successful careers. Sci High provides a rigorous high school curriculum with an emphasis in science and in a supportive environment of learning and respect that prepares students to make informed choices about post-secondary pursuits.

POSITION OVERVIEW: Sci High is currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Speech Language Pathologist. As a successful Speech-Language Pathologist, you will work with Diverse Learners to provide high-quality school-based speech-language services, which include: treatment of speech-language, social-communication, and cognitive-communication disorders in students. The Speech Language Pathologist is a member of the IEP team and is responsible for developing appropriate IEP goals to meet student needs; communicating with teachers, parents, and related service providers; and ensuring that student goals are addressed in and/or outside of the classroom. The speech-language pathologist works collaboratively with diverse learners and general education teachers to support students' communication and academic and social learning, as described and outlined in their IEPs.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:

  • Master's Degree Preferred in Speech Pathology Eligible for an ancillary speech pathology certification through the Louisiana Department of Education Active license in speech/language pathology from the Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech-language Pathology and Audiology
  • Certification by American Speech-Language-Hearing Association PREFERRED
  • Professional licensure and Louisiana certification in speech-language pathology (CCC-SLP)
  • School experience PREFERRED

QUALIFICATIONS: An ideal candidate would have the following experiences and qualifications:

  • Conducting assessments and evaluations in accordance with parent/guardian and student rights and Louisiana Bulletin 1508 if qualified.
  • Uses a variety of appropriate tools and techniques to evaluate and report student progress.
  • Utilizes purposeful speech activities that support goals and increase access in the general education setting.
  • Serves as the case manager and develops and implements IEPs to meet the individual needs of the student.
  • Participates as an active IEP team member in IEP meetings.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and progress notes.
  • Educates and demonstrates therapy techniques to parents that can be incorporated into the home.
  • Experience collaborating with both Special Education and General Education teachers;
  • Excellent skills in communicating with families and advocating for students; Communicates regularly with parents, faculty, and staff
  • Skilled in working with a diverse community;

REQUIREMENTS OF WORK: As a member of the Diverse Learners Team, you are expected to:

Manage Caseload

  • Monitor student progress towards IEP goals and graduation;
  • Communicate specific performance expectations to students;
  • Help promote students’ independence, positive self-concept, social skills and self-help skills.

Ensure Compliance

  • Ensure that documentation is maintained in compliance with policy and state and federal law.

Stay Informed

  • Effectively communicate with school administrators, teachers, student service personnel, and parents regarding student performance and plans for improvement.
  • Participate in Professional Development
  • Keep abreast of new instructional and behavioral methods and techniques;
