Good afternoon Sci High Families,
Due to a very concerning spike in the prevalence of COVID-19 in New Orleans, this afternoon, NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) announced the return to distance learning District-wide to best protect the health and safety of our students, their families, and our staff and teachers. School leaders were instructed to move all Pre-K-12 classes to distance learning no later than Thursday, Jan. 7th , to give parents, guardians, and families time to adjust their schedules. NOLA-PS will continue to monitor COVID-19 data and trends and reevaluate this decision no sooner than Jan. 21st , in hopes that the local trend in positivity rates and case counts improves.
For Sci High, this means that we will begin distance learning tomorrow for all students, and will continue until local officials reassess and determine that it is safe for students to return to campuses.
Sci High will continue to offer curbside feeding program to Sci High Families, but NOLA Public Schools will continue to provide a list of all schools providing community feeding to any student on their website. Families can access this information here.
The leaders at NOPS, as well as Sci High leaders understand that in-person learning is the ideal education environment for students because it addresses the whole child, academically, socially, and emotionally. But for the immediate future, distance learning will be in place out of an abundance of caution.
While there is a light at the end of the tunnel with the distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine, we must get through the tunnel. The trip through the tunnel can be a short one if everyone does their part to get us through, or it can be a long, stretched out, seemingly never-ending trip, if folks don't do their part.
As I receive more info from NOPS, I will pass it on to you. Please keep safe! Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Avoid large gatherings. Let's all do our part.
