Black History Month 2022 at Sci High

January 14, 2022, by information

In 1926, Carter G. Woodson organized the first Black History Week in Black churches. He believed that “Black History Week [Month], would be unnecessary when all Americans would willingly recognize and acknowledge the contributions of African Americans as a legitimate and integral part of the history of this country.” In honor of that celebration and goal, the members of the Black History Club would like to encourage the Sci-high Community to join us in celebrating Black History Month.

Black History in New Orleans

Theme

The club has organized several events to celebrate the accomplishments of African Americans.

Snack Sales

Members of the club will sell snacks to students at dismissal every Wednesday Snack Sales upon return to in-person instruction at the student exit.

Door Decorating Contest

The Club is hosting a Door Decorating Contest. Staff and homerooms are invited to decorate their doors in honor of the Black History in New Orleans.

To participate:

  1. Pick an event, person, or organization that represents New Orleans Black History.
  2. Decorate your door to educate others in our community about the event, person, or organization.
