Black History Month

95 Years Ago, Carter G. Woodson organized the first Black History Week. Sci-High joins the Association for the Study of African American Life and History in recognizing and acknowledging the contributions of the Black Diaspora with the theme The Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity. A Bit of History

A Bit of History: The Club will send two emails per week that will showcase an important person, place, or event. The email will include a mini-documentary and a google quiz. If a student completes the survey correctly, their name is put in a drawing for a $20 gift card.

Essay Writing Contest

The Club is inviting students to write an essay about “The Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity” The essay has to be 1 and ½ pages, double spaced, with 1’ margins and heading. The 1st Prize winner will receive $150 and the 2nd Prize winner will receive $75!

Black History Program

This year we are partnering with the New Orleans Public Library to screen their Black History Program. More info will be shared.

Black History Spirit Week

2/22 - Dashiki Day: The Sci High community will celebrate Black History through Black History Spirit Week. To participate: Wear African Prints or dashiki.

2/23 - HBCU Day: The Sci High community will celebrate Black History through Black History Spirit Week. To participate represent your favorite Historically Black College or University.

2/24 - Black Greek Organization Day: The Sci High community will celebrate Black History through Black History Spirit Week. Pay respect to the legacy of Black Greek Organizations by repping their COLORS to participate.

2/25 - Liberation Day: The Sci High community will celebrate Black History through Black History Spirit Week. To participate represent the Black Nationalist Flag by wearing your class color:

2021 - Green 2022 - Black 2023 - Yellow 2024 - Red

2/26 - The Hair Affair: The Sci High community will celebrate Black History through Black History Spirit Week. Show off your hair!! Wrap, braid, color it!!
