Academic Guidance

Sci High provides a wide array of academic supports, including extra reading and math classes, test prep classes, extended academic days for teacher-led data-driven tutoring and in-school tutoring from Tulane undergraduates for students in all grades. The Academic Guidance Advisors provide students with information on ACT preparation, scheduling, graduation requirements and pathways, financial aid, as well as college & career guidance, with a dedicated counselor for each grade level.

Advanced Placement Courses
Sci High offers students several Advanced Placement (AP) classes spread out in Computer Science, English, Science, and Social Studies. AP classes offer students the chance to prepare for college rigor classes and earn introductory credit for college courses, saving money and time. AP classes also help students get into college, by boosting their GPA and showing admissions officers that students are willing to challenge themselves.
Dual Enrollment
The Sci High Dual Enrollment Program offers high school students a chance to earn high school and college credits simultaneously. Upon successful completion, students will receive both high school and college credit.

Special Education Services

At Sci High, we welcome all students and meet their various needs with a continuum of support. As an open enrollment high school, we encourage all of our students to access as much school programming as they are comfortable with including AP, Honors and Project Lead the Way classes.
Sci High students are provided the opportunity to participate in paid summer internships with Sci High’s bevy of community partners. Students receive one-on-one mentorship; they can apply their learning, develop their soft skills and create professional networks.

FAFSA®: Apply for Aid

Use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form to apply for financial aid for college.

S.T.E.M Program

Many programs outside the classroom enrich students’ knowledge of and experience in the science, technology, math and engineering areas. Summer internships immerse students in actual workplaces, including scientific settings. Classes include real-world projects such as investigating axolotl genetics through breeding crosses in Biology and modelling flood risk in Environmental Science .

Academic Rigor in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

Students participate in science fairs at Sci High and the Greater New Orleans Science & Engineering fair. Sci High students take part in educational extracurricular activities in STEM (science, technology, engineering, & math) fields that include mentoring opportunities, job shadowing, and field trips. Special events throughout the school year, including a Lunch Series of mentoring meetings with members of American Medical Women's Association from Tulane University, and a variety of field trips to places like the Simulated Environment Teaching Hospital and NASA, expose Sci High students to diverse careers and majors, and help them develop their networking skills.

 Science Research

At Sci High we help students to gain new knowledge and master core scientific concepts. We achieve this goal by fostering a sense of curiosity, exploring science in the real-world, and practicing problem-solving skills. Our courses are challenging, stimulating, collaborative, and fun. Students should be able to apply the principles of scientific research to their own areas of interest, and communicate their findings with others.

Mathematics Program

Sci High ensure that students have a strong and rigorous foundation in mathematics that is both conceptual and real-world. Our students work with confidence to approach problem-solving in post-secondary or career opportunities. We aim to provide an exceptional educational experience in mathematics by providing scholars a learning culture that is engaging, rigorous and supportive that caters to each student's success.

Career and Technical Education Pathways

Career and Technical Education at our school empowers students through hands-on learning, specific skill-building, and a focus on careers. Through CTE, we aim to prepare Sci High students for the diverse futures that await them after graduation by supporting students in achieving Industry-Based Certifications (IBCs) that give them job-readiness straight out of high school.
