Afterschool Coordinator

Afterschool Coordinator

Sci High is seeking an exceptional and dynamic individual for the position of Afterschool Coordinator. General responsibilities include daily operation of the afterschool program, including, but not limited to: strong leadership, overseeing personnel/program staff, consistent monitoring of the afterschool program, daily student attendance tracking, and general program operation.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain an inviting, safe, orderly environment

• Maintain a clear and consistent line of communication with program staff, school administration, and parents.

• Compiling a list of afterschool clubs/activities that incorporate student interests, ensuring that they each have staff sponsors and adequate enrollment.

• Coordinate with external partners and tutors

• Provide day-to-day oversight of programs and after-school staff.

• Conduct regular meetings with afterschool staff (weekly or every other week)

• Coordinating afterschool transportation for students participating in after school activities.

• Making sure each activity (especially marching units) has appropriate materials/equipment .

• Keeping attendance and monitoring students participating in activities. Ensuring that only students enrolled in activity are allowed to remain on campus.

• Serve as a mandated reporter, reporting any suspicion of child abuse or neglect to the appropriate individual for follow-through.

• Securing building and equipment as necessary at the end of each day.

• Maintain facilities, inventory, equipment and supplies as required.

• Participate in required training programs, conferences, courses or other aspects of professional

• Assist in coordinating summer programming (S.T.E.P.).

• Perform other duties as assigned .

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be a detail-oriented self-starter with strong leadership, organizational, management, and communication skills. Familiarity with youth development in the New Orleans region highly desired.

• Some college coursework is required; Coursework in education, social or human services, child development, or related field is desirable

• One or more years' experience working in a leadership or supervisory capacity in an afterschool, day camp or community youth outreach setting is preferred

• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with school staff, external organizations, parents and community leaders

• Familiarity with quality criteria for after-school programs

• Experience working with low-income underserved middle school youth

• Familiarity with youth development principles and high school-aged youth

• Experience working with diverse populations

• Skill in data tracking, record keeping, writing reports, and maintaining student and staff records

• Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to others.

• Ability to respond to critical incidents and emergency situations with swift and mindful action.

• Excellent organizational and coordination skills

• Must clear FBI and/or local background checks

• Availability to work occasionally on evenings or weekends for field trips and special events

• Ability to work Monday - Friday from approximately 10:30am - 6:00pm (hours may be flexible) oversee the daily closing procedures including cleaning and parent communication.
